Tony Tellez:
The defender scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime as Brockport defeated SUNYIT 3-2 in OT on Saturday. A day earlier, Tellez registered another goal early in the blowout win over Morrisville 11-0.
Chris Amato:
The Scarlet Raptors' left back had four assists in three games, including three assists in a 5-3 win over Arcadia Oct. 3 and the game-winning assist in a 1-0 win over Rutgers-Newark Oct. 6. He also contributed defensively to the team's shutout. The Raptors went 2-1 on the week.
Adam Boyer:
Junior sweeper Adam Boyer led the #19 ranked Colonels to a pair of shutout wins in SCAC play over the weekend, defeating both Millsaps and Birmingham Southern. On Friday against Millsaps, Boyer kept Centre’s defense organized and allowed just four shots on goal. He also created consistent opportunities on the offensive end with precise through balls out of the back. Then on Sunday vs. Birmingham Southern, Boyer had a game-changing performance scoring the game winning goal off a header from a set-piece in the 40th minute.For the season, Boyer has scored two game winning goals and tallied two assists for six total points as a sweeper back. Boyer, a team captain, was a 3rd Team All-South Central Region player as a sophomore in 2006.
Casey Sowells:
Sowells scored all four of the Tigers' goals in a one-goal win over Schriner. The four goals tied a team and ASC record.
Matt Pucci:
3 goals on the week, with two coming against Coe, while the other was a game winner against St. Olaf with 44 seconds remaining. Team upped record to 12-0-1.
Jon Brehm:
Jon Brehm totaled four goals and two assists (10 points) while leading Elmhurst to a pair of conference wins last week. He scored a goal in the Bluejays' 4-0 win at North Central College. on Wednesday (October 3). On Saturday (October 6), he had a hand in all five of the Bluejays' goals in a 5-0 win over Augustana College. He became just the second player in the program's four-year history to net a hat trick by scoring three goals. He also added an assist on both of the two remaining goals, setting an Elmhurst single-game record for points scored with eight. He ranks second on the 11-1-1 team with nine goals and 24 points while co-leading the squad in assists (six).
Andrew Stevermer:
In his only match played this week, Stevermer made 21 saves against 42 shots as Pacific upset No. 5 Puget Sound 2-1 in double overtime. Stevermer played all 108 minutes. The only goal allowed was a shot that glanced off of his fingertips. In nine matches this season, Stevermer has compiled a 0.99 goals against average and ranks among the national leaders with a .897 save percentage.
Adam Ross:
Junior Adam Ross scored the game-tying goal in Ohio Northern's 2-1 overtime win over Heidelberg on Tuesday. He also scored two goals and assisted on two other goals in ONU's 7-1 victory over Marietta on Saturday. For the week he had three goals and two assists.
Nabil Wahbi:
In a 2-0 week for the Gothic Knights (10-3), freshman midfielder NABIL WAHBI (Saddle Brook, NJ/Dickinson), scored the first three goals of his collegiate career, while starting only his second and third games. He scored on three of the four shots he took and all four shots were on goal.In NJCU’s 6-0 win over Keystone College on October 1, Wahbi scored twice in the decision. At 71:01 of the second half, Wahbi, making his second career start, notched his first career goal and point when he was dragged down in the box, then buried the ensuing penalty kick in the right side. Just 3:36 later, Wahbi scored again knocked in a pass for a 5-0 lead. In NJCU’s 6-1 win over Maritime College on October 3, Wahbi equaled the fourth fastest goal to start a game in school history when he put the Knights ahead 1-0 just 29 seconds into the game. It was the second time this season NJCU had opened a game with a goal in under 30 seconds. The win helped NJCU reach double figures in victories for the eighth consecutive season and the ninth time in the last 10 years.Wahbi put the Knights ahead when after consecutive passes drilled home a one-timer. It was Wahbi’s third goal of the season.
Chris Edelschein:
Edelschein scored four goals as Montclair State picked up two non-conference wins last week. Edelschein recorded his first career hat trick as MSU posted a 9-0 win over Mitchell College. Edelschein scored the first goal of the game for MSU and collected a second four minutes later before registering his third goal at 19:45 of the first half. In the next game, Edelschein scored the game's lone goal, his eighth of the year as MSU downed Eastern University, 1-0 to improve to 11-1-1.
Bannett Asingura:
Earlham freshman Bannett Asingura (Mbarara, Uganda/United World College) recorded a pair of goals to lead the Quakers past Oberlin, 2-1 in overtime, to win the Freedom Trophy for the first time since the trophy was established three years ago by the 1954 Quaker team inducted into the Earlham athletics hall of fame in 2005. Asingura gave the Quakers a 1-0 lead midway through the first half then scored the game-winner 6:26 into the extra session.
Simone DiSlavo:
Wooster sophomore Simone DiSlavo (Reynoldsburg, OH/Reynoldsburg) scored the game-winner in overtime versus Hiram, a 4-3 decision, and also had an assist in the contest. The Scots were 1-1 on the week after losing to Kenyon, 1-0, in overtime.
Jessica Leoni:
Sophomore fullback Jessica Leoni had three goals and four assists for 10 points and helped the team post two shutouts in a 2-1 week. She had two goals and two assists vs. Lancaster Bible College Oct. 1, and tallied one goal, two assists against Medgar Evers, including the game-winning assist.
Brittany McKee:
In two shutout wins, senior defender Brittany McKee lead the Titan back line by allowing opponents to attempt just six shots, including just one in a 3-0 win at Thiel.
Helen Giroux:
Freshman Helen Giroux helped the Cardinals snap nationally ranked Oneonta's 101-game conference unbeaten streak: an NCAA Record among all divisions on Saturday by scoring all four goals in the game. Giroux's four goals ties a single-game record for most goals in a game at Plattsburgh State. Ironically, Oneonta started the streak in their first game of the 1999 season following a 1-0 setback to the Cardinals in the 1998 conference tournament.Giroux also scored the game winner in a 2-0 victory over New Paltz on Friday.
Jennifer Albuja:
In a 2-1 week for the Gothic Knights, freshman striker JENNIFER ALBUJA (Union City, NJ/Hoboken) had her assault on school history reach a quick culmination, as she scored five goals and had 11 points, 35 shots and 15 shots on goal. She established single-season school records for goals (18), points (38) and shots (86) during the week and achieved a single-game school record with 16 shots.In a 2-0 win against Keystone College on October 1, Albuja scored both of NJCU’s goals. The rookie scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season in only her 10th game to shatter the single-season scoring record and achieved a single-game scoring record with 16 shots and seven on goal, while adding her third game-winning goal and scored the first goal of a game for the fourth time this season.Albuja broke the single-season record of 14 set by Kelly Daly in 2005. The 16 shots by Albuja—seven of which were on goal—broke the single-game school record of 14 accomplished twice by Carine Carvalheiro (2003 and 2005).Albuja, opened the scoring at 12:30 of the first half when she received a through ball from midfield and slammed in a shot from the left wing to tie the record. NJCU led 1-0 at the half. With the game closer on the scoreboard than the statistics would indicate, Albuja added an important insurance goal at 50:29 of the second half. After taking a pass from midfield, Albuja weaved through five defenders upfield, before blasting in a shot from the right wing for the record-breaker. She also hit the post on a shot later in the game.In a 2-1 loss at SUNY-Farmingdale on October 3, Albuja had chances to tie the game, finishing with a game-high eight shots, including four on goal.In NJCU’s 9-0 rout of City College of New York on October 6, Albuja had three goals, including her 18th of the year, and an assist to break the single-season points record.Albuja notched her third hat trick of the season and sixth multiple goal game of the year to extend her own single-season record of 18 goals, and combined with two assists, became NJCU’s single-season record-holder with 38 points, eclipsing Katie Feehan’s 2005 mark of 34 points. She teamed with another NJCU player as each collected hat tricks—marking only the second time in program history that two players collected at least three goals in the same game.Albuja attempted 11 shots in the game, giving her 86 in 12 games, breaking the single-season school standard for shots set by Feehan in 2004 (79). Albuja moved into a tie for fourth in school history in career goals (18) and tied for fifth in career points (38).During a stretch of the first half, the Knights scored three goals in a span of 1:32, including two by Albuja. The three goals in 1:32 were just two seconds shy of the single-game school record for three fastest goals. Albuja’s final goal in the second half, helped Katie Feehan become NJCU’s all-time assists leader. Albuja later assisted on Feehan’s 30th career goal.Albuja currently leads the NJAC in goals (18), points (38), shots (86), shots per game (7.17), and ranks second in points per game (3.17) and goals per game (1.50). Her three game-winners are tied for fourth in the NJAC.
Jamie English:
Jamie English, forward for the eighth-ranked Emory University women’s soccer team, scored the ‘golden goal’ in a 3-2 double overtime upset victory over fourth-ranked Washington University (Mo.). With just four minutes remaining in the match, English broke away from the Bears’ defense after a pass from Alexa Wahr, advancing unimpeded into the Washington box and launching a shot past the goalkeeper to give Emory the victory. The goal was the senior’s second of the day, as she scored in the sixth minute of the match as well. English is the University Athletic Association (UAA) leader with 10 goals and 22 points this season, both career bests. She has led the Eagles to a 10-0-1 record this season, including a 1-0-1 record in UAA games, good for second-place in the Association.
Jenn Pontier:
Jenn Pontier went 3-0 with three shutouts for Stevens last week. She led the Ducks to wins over Drew University (0 saves), Rochester Institute of Technology (4 saves) and St. John Fisher College (1 save). Dating back to last week, Pontier has posted four straight shutouts - in her only four career starts. So far this season, Pontier has not allowed a single goal.
Alice Binns:
Freshman keeper Alice Binns recorded her third shutout of the season in #6 William Smith's 1-0 win over Vassar on Saturday. She collected 10 saves in the effort. Binns also picked up one save in the Herons' 3-1 victory over RPI. She leads the league with a 0.31 GAA and owns a .921 save percentage. William Smith is now 10-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference action.
Allison Davis:
Sophomore midfielder Allison Davis (Carbondale, Ill./Carbondale) scored two goals in Sewanee's 8-1 win over SCAC opponent Oglethorpe on Saturday. On Sunday, Davis scored two more in Sewanee's 11-0 route of Piedmont, taking her weekend total to four goals.Davis, a sophomore midfielder, has started all eight games this year and has seven goals and two assists to lead the Tiger scoring for 2007.
Brittany Belrichard:
Freshman midfielder Brittany Belrichard posted the game winning double overtime goal and assisted on two others in Millikin's 3-2 upset win over Illinois Wesleyan. It was the first victory ever for Millikin over IWU. To go along with her goal and 2 assists in the contest, Brittany set the school single season record for goals (11) and points (26)with 7 games still to play.
Elyse Bellardini:
Elyse Bellardini (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) led the Cardinals to two wins this week by scoring two goals in an 8-1 victory over Shenandoah, and provided the assist on the game-winning goal for a 2-1 win against new conference foe Scranton. Bellardini took the ball from her center midfield position, beat two defenders on the dribble to the left side of the penalty box, then served a perfect centering pass to Suzie Peters who finished the play. CUA remains undefeated in Landmark Conference play and is enjoying a 10 game unbeaten streak.
