Noel Tipovski:
Anchored defensive unit that pitched two shutout victories against conference foes, 2-0 over 15th-ranked Cortland on Friday and 3-0 against Oswego on Saturday. Scored an insurance goal--his first of the season--to preserve the win over the Red Dragons, which was Plattsburgh's first versus a nationally ranked team since 2005. The Cardinals, who have not yet allowed a goal in seven home games, limited only five shots on goal over the weekend.
Drew Taylor:
The senior defender was instrumental in Aurora's 2-0 week with shutout victories over Concordia Chicago (2-0) and MSOE (5-0). In AU's 5-0 win over MSOE, Taylor had the game winning goal and assisted on another from his defensive position, while also being a mainstay in front of the Spartan goalkeeper on defense.
Devin Freeman-Roche:
Junior back Devin Freeman-Roche of New York University helped the Violets extend their undefeated streak to eight matches (7-0-1) with respective victories over Hunter College (Sept. 26) and Case Western Reserve University (Sept. 29). Freeman-Roche helped limit Hunter to one shot on goal in a 3-0 victory. Three days later, he assisted on the game-winning goal at 17:06 and cleared two balls of the backline late in the match to power a 1-0 triumph over Case Western Reserve in NYU’s UAA opener. Freeman-Roche has helped the Violets (8-1-1, 1-0 UAA), ranked #11 by d3kicks.com, post five consecutive shutouts and a shutout streak of 507:43 that ranks second in school history to the mark of 571:03 recorded in 2005.
Joe Rotan:
Senior forward Joe Rotan capped off a tremendous week scoring 7 goals in 4 games. Rotan posted 2 goals in a 2-0 win over Immaculata University, a 3-1 win over Delaware Valley College, and a 3-0 win over Neumann College. In the teams final game of the week Rotan scored first for the Cavaliers as Cabrini topped Waynesburg 4-0. Rotan currently leads Cabrini with 11 goals and 3 assists in 12 games played.
Jonathan Hernandez:
Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman forward Jonathan Hernandez (Belton, TX / BHS) recorded his first collegiate hat trick in a 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist. It was just the third time a player scored three goals in an ASC game this season. Hernandez also had three shots on goal in a 1-0 win over LeTourneau.
Kyle Sterling:
Sterling scored the game-winner against No. 4 York (Pa.) College to end the Spartans' 49-game unbeaten streak and hand the Sea Gulls a 1-0 win, one of the biggest wins in program history. Sterling scored the goal late in the second half to end a streak that lasted over two years. The last time York lost was September 17, 2005 to none-other-than Salisbury.
EJ Sesselman:
EJ recorded 3 excellent shutouts on the road this past week at Luther College, Ripon College, and St. Norbert college. He has only given up 3 goals this season (one on penalty kick) and his gaa is 0.28.
Colin Thompson:
Thompson picked up the first points of his Millsaps career this weekend in a split for the Majors, assisting on the goal in the 85th minute on Friday that sent the game into overtime and netting two goals in the first half – including the game-winner – that gave Millsaps a 3-1 win over Austin College, its first SCAC win in 16 matches dating back to 2005. It marked Thompson’s first two goals of his career and gave the Majors their first SCAC win of the year.
Trevor Cote:
During a 2-0 week for the regionally-ranked Lyons, Cote tallied the game-winning goal in each contest, including an 81st-minute marker that snapped a tie against NEWMAC foe Springfield. On Tuesday, he sent home the first goal of the game in the ninth minute of a 3-0 victory versus visiting Roger Williams. At Springfield on Saturday, Cote scored with over nine minutes remaining in regulation to cap Wheaton's rally from a 2-0 deficit during a 3-2 win.
Nat Zenner:
Sophomore midfielder Nat Zenner scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Washington University’s 3-2 win over University Athletic Association foe Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, Sept. 29. Zenner scored twice in the second half against the Tartans, connecting on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to break a 1-1 tie, and scoring again less than four minutes later to put WU ahead, 3-1.
Jeritt Thayer:
Senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer of New York University scored a goal in each of the Violets’ two victories in helping his team extend its undefeated streak to eight games (7-0-1). Thayer netted his eighth goal of the season to highlight a 3-0 non-conference victory over Hunter College on Sept. 26. Three days later, the senior tallied his third game-winning score of the season at 17:06 as NYU opened the UAA portion of its schedule with a 1-0 triumph over defending league champion Case Western Reserve University. The Violets (8-1-1, 1-0 UAA) are ranked #11 by d3kicks.com.
Nicole Stutz:
Sophomore defender Nicole Stutz of New York University helped the Violets earn their fourth shutout of the season in their 4-0 victory over Case Western Reserve University on Sept. 29. Stutz dominated along the backline, helping limit the Spartans to seven shots, as NYU posted its sixth shutout of the season. In addition, the Violets earned their first UAA-opening win since 2004.
Kara Neef:
Kara Neef, a junior right back from Havertown, PA recorded a pair of goals and a pair of assists in a 3-0 week while holding the Eastern opposition to a single goal. Neef, who has three goals and three assists on the year, scored on an overlapping run in the Eagles 7-0 win over the College of Notre Dame on Monday. On Wednesday Neef helped the 7-2 Eagles to overcome a 1-0 first half deficit when she converted a penalty kick. Neef closed out the week with a pair of assists on long serves into the box. Eastern has only surrendered six goals on the year.
Kelli Jackson:
Texas-Dallas senior defender Kelli Jackson (Tulsa, OK / Union HS) guided a unit to its seventh consecutive shutout, with league wins over Mississippi College, and Louisiana College on the road, and a non-conference tie with Austin College. Jackson also picked up assists on three goals, including the game-winner against MC.
Brandi Light:
Senior forward Brandi Light tied a school record with eight points, scoring three goals and two assists as Alvernia College notched its second shutout in as many days and third straight with a 5-0 win over Cedar Crest College. She would add to her tally later that week as she netted two goals in a 4-2 loss to Misericordia.
Ashley Cabral:
Ashley Cabral, a West Haven, Connecticut senior forward, scored six goals and added one assist for 13 points in a 1-1 week for The Pride. In a 4-1 loss to USA South foe Christopher Newport, Cabral tallied the lone Greensboro score of the game. In a 9-1 win over USA South rival Shenandoah, Cabral tied the school record for goals in a game with five. She also added an assist in the victory to finish with 11 points. She was picked the USA South offensive player of the week
Rachel Oswald:
In three matches and only 10 shot attempts, junior forward Rachel Oswald posted game-winning goals against Elmhurst College of Illinois and Cornell last week, as Wartburg went 3-0. Oswald lso helped lead the Knights to a key Central Region win at Macalester on Sept. 30, handing the Fighting Scots their first home loss since Sept. of 2004.
Mary Velan:
Senior forward Mary Velan etched her name into Oneonta State record books in three different categories this past week and is now the Oneonta State career leader in goals, assists and total points. On Tuesday her two goals in a victory over Ithaca broke the Oneonta State career point record of 137 then Friday she had a pair of goals in a victory over Brockport to break the career goal record of 59. On Saturday she recorded a goal and an assist in a victory over Geneseo, the latter which broke Oneonta's career assist record.
Catherine Nathans:
On Sept 29, junior forward Catherine Nathans had a hand in all three Western Connecticut goals, including the game-winner, as the Colonials defeated Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College, 3-0. She netted the decisive goal in the first half before adding an insurance marker on a penalty kick early in the second stanza. Nathans capped off her season-high five-point effort with an assist.
Melida Alvarez:
Freshman forward Melida Alvarez had an impressive showing for the nationally-ranked Lyons last week, assisting two goals late in a 2-1 win over regional rival Amherst before netting a natural hat trick in the first 8:09 of a 7-1 win over NEWMAC foe MIT. Wheaton trailed, 1-0 on Wednesday against the Lord Jeffs before Alvarez notched assists during the 84th and 87th minutes to help the Lyons come from behind. On Saturday against MIT, Alvarez played only the initial 20 minutes, scoring the first three goals of the game at 1:41, 3:16 and 8:09. She leads the Lyons with 10 goals and three game-winners.
Amy Douglas:
Freshman forward Amy Douglas scored six goals and recorded one assist in three games this week for 13 total points. The first-year had a hat trick in the Pirates' 5-0 win over Schreiner University and helped the team to a 3-0 week. She has scored at least one goal in her last five games and leads the SCAC with nine goals and 21 points.
Shannon Strohm:
Sophomore netminder Shannon Strohm has 6 shutouts after another impressive week for CSB. This past week she was 2-0 and made 2 key saves against St Olaf to preserve the shutout for the Blazers. Her season stats are 8 wins, 6 shutouts, only 3 GA (0.37 GAA) and .925 save percentage. The Blazers are now 10-0.
