Kleinstuber lifts Rutgers-Camden to program record-tying win

GLASSBORO, NJ (Oct. 29, 2008) � Freshman forward Todd Kleinstuber (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) scored the lone goal of the game with 17:44 remaining in regulation to lift the Rutgers University-Camden men�s soccer team over Rowan University, 1-0, in the final regular-season New Jersey Athletic Conference game for both teams here Wednesday night.

The victory lifts Rutgers-Camden to 15-3-1 on the season, tying the program�s record for wins shared by the teams in 2004 (15-2-4) and 2005 (15-5-1).

The Scarlet Raptors finish the regular season at 6-2-1 in the conference and will be the third seed in the upcoming NJAC playoffs. They will host sixth seed New Jersey City University (10-5-2 overall, 4-4-1 NJAC) on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Raptors defeated the Gothic Knights, 3-0, in Camden on Oct. 26.

Kleinstuber collected his seventh goal � and team-leading fourth game winner � late in the game, dribbling in front of the Profs� goal before firing a shot into the back of the net. It was his second game-winning goal in the Raptors� last three contests, as he also scored the lone goal in a 1-0 overtime victory at Lebanon Valley College Oct. 22. That tally earned him his third honor of the season as the NJAC Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The Scarlet Raptors, who have won five straight games and six of their last seven, held a 15-8 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Each team had 10 fouls, with the Profs receiving a red card at 68:46 and playing the rest of the game short-handed.

Rutgers-Camden freshman goalie Tim VanLiew (Deptford, NJ/Deptford), the current NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, made two saves in posting his eighth shutout of the season. He moved into second place on the single-season shutout list for Rutgers-Camden goalies, passing Terence Bogie, who had seven in 1988. The all-time leader is Jim Skene with 11 in 1981. VanLiew also owns four consecutive shutouts for the Raptors, one shy of the program record by Skene (Oct. 24-Nov. 7, 1981) and Pete DeFeo (Sept. 19-Oct. 1, 1987).

VanLiew hasn�t allowed a goal since a first-half tally in a 2-1 win over Rutgers-Newark on Oct. 15. He has logged 423:04 consecutive scoreless minutes. Skene holds the record of 561:35 consecutive shutout minutes in 1981.

Rowan sophomore goalie Charlie Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) finished with seven saves.
