2007 NCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND - Davis Plays Hand in Five Straight Goals as Wheaton Blanks Baptist Bible, 9-0

NORTON, MA- Senior Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) tied a school record with four assists and was one helper short of matching an NCAA Tournament mark, as she played a hand in five consecutive goals in leading the Wheaton College women's soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Baptist Bible College during Friday's opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Mirrione Stadium.

The Lyons improved to 22-0-1 while extending their unbeaten streak to 23 games and winning stretch to 19 contests, which are two and one shy of program records, respectively. Wheaton will face the winner of this afternoon's second game between Bowdoin College and Ithaca College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for the right to advance to next weekend's sectional semifinal. Having its five-game unbeaten streak snapped today, Baptist Bible finishes its season at 17-4-2.

Freshman Melida Alvarez (Saugus, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) put the Lyons on the board at 6:32, giving the first-year forward her team-leading 23rd goal of the season, which also set the program's freshman goals record. Wheaton then received a string of six successive goals during a 28:18 span, with five of the tallies coming off corner kicks. Davis combined for one goal and four assists in that stretch, as her assist and point totals were each career highs.

Senior Katelyn Brack (Lake Oswego, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) picked up goals on Davis' last two helpers in the 34th and 38th minutes before assisting freshman Alessia Viscomi (Newton, MA/Newton North) in the 41st minute to make it a seven-goal game. Junior Bailey Edwards (Austin, TX/Saint Stephen's Episcopal School) rounded out the first-half scoring at 44:36. Nine different Lyons figured into the scoring during the opening stanza, as Wheaton held advantages of 24-0 in shots and 10-0 in corner kicks.

Sophomore Abby Isaac (Larchmont, NY/Proctor Academy) notched the lone goal of the second half, as she scored at 86:52 during her first field action of the season. Wheaton senior goalies Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) and Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA/Brookline) went untested in split halves, while Defender senior Holly Walton (Galloway, NJ/The Pilgrim Academy) had seven saves.
