Hough Draws NEWMAC Honors After Standout Tournament Performance
NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's soccer standout Emily Hough (Norwich, VT/Hanover) became the fourth Lyon to earn New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week honors this fall, as the freshman drew the accolade for the week ending on Sunday, November 4 after helping Wheaton corral its seventh NEWMAC Tournament crown in eight seasons.
Hough played a role in three of the nationally-ranked Lyons' seven goals over the weekend and earned her first weekly conference honor. During top-seeded Wheaton's 2-0 victory over number four Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Saturday, Hough's 65th-minute marker put Wheaton up by two and created some separation between the teams. She also tallied the game-winner on Sunday during a 5-0 victory against number three Babson College, sending home a sixth-minute tally before assisting Wheaton's fourth goal in the 62nd minute.
The first-year forward has been a significant offensive contributor in leading the squad with 11 assists and placing second in goals (14), points (39) and game-winning tallies (4). She is approaching the single-season top 10 at Wheaton in each goals, assists and points. Hough has appeared in all 22 games, making 16 starts.
Wheaton, which is ranked seventh nationally and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), improved to 21-0-1 with its wins this past weekend and is set to make an NCAA Tournament appearance for the eighth consecutive season. The Lyons will host Baptist Bible College on Friday in a first-round game at 11:00 a.m.
