Rabesa Becomes Seventh 100-Point Scorer in Women's Soccer History as Lyons Cruise Past Mount Holyoke, 9-1

SOUTH HADLEY, MA- Senior Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA/Falmouth) became the seventh 100-point scorer in Wheaton College women's soccer history Tuesday afternoon at Mount Holyoke College, as the visiting Lyons downed the hosts, 9-1 in each team's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season finale at Mount Holyoke Soccer Field.

Clinching its ninth consecutive regular season conference championship, Wheaton went unbeaten in league play for an astounding seventh straight year. Extending their winning streak to 15 games, unbeaten stretch to 19 contests and league undefeated streak to 85 games, the Lyons will host tournament first-round action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent that will be determined following tonight's action around the league.

Ranked seventh in the country and second in the region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Wheaton improved its overall record to 18-0-1 while going a perfect 9-0 for the second successive fall and fifth time in the last seven seasons. Mount Holyoke ends its season at 3-13 and 1-8.

Rabesa, who posted a hat trick during a 17:22 span of the first half, needed just one point to reach the 100-point milestone. In addition to Rabesa's history-making half, freshman Emily Hough (Norwich, VT/Hanover) had a monster opening stanza by playing a hand in five straight goals, including the eventual winner in the ninth minute. Hough had two goals and three assists in the first 28:37 of action, as Wheaton built a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Hough scored the second and fifth tallies while assisting on the third, fourth and sixth. After freshman Alessia Viscomi (Newton, MA/Newton North) notched her first collegiate goal in the sixth minute, Hough and senior Ashley Furr (Chicopee, MA/Cathedral) connected on the next two at 8:45 and 17:50. Hough found Rabesa for the team's fourth goal in the 22nd minute, followed by Furr sending a helper to Hough at 26:42 and Hough locating Rabesa for the second time in the 29th minute. Rabesa completed the first-half scoring at 39:20 on an assist from senior Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow).

After the hosts got on the board in the second half at 49:10, which snapped Wheaton's five-game shutout streak and nearly 531 minutes of not allowing a goal, a pair of Lyon freshmen picked up their first career goals. Lauren Caney (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) posted an unassisted marker in the 80th minute, while classmate Gwen Crafts (Gilford, NH/Gilford) found the back of the net with less than six minutes left. Junior Jessica Bramucci (Ludlow, MA/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) was credited with the assist.

Sophomore goalie Abby Isaac (Larchmont, NY/Proctor Academy) stopped four of Mount Holyoke's five shots in picking up her fourth win of the year, while sophomore Elaine Harvey (Bolton, MA/Saint Mark's) had seven saves in the loss. The Lyons finished with 28 shots and took the game's lone two corner kicks.
