UT Tyler Womens Soccer Takes Down ETBU

The University of Texas at Tyler scored a 5-2 victory over East Texas Baptist Saturday night in American Southwest Conference womens soccer, winning their final home game and ensuring themselves at least a third-place finish in the final ASC standings.

The Patriots got started early when junior Kelly Buchanan (Houston, Texas) bent a corner kick right past ETBU keeper Jordyn Perry at 5:25 to put UT Tyler up, 1-0.

In the 31st minute the Patriots stuck again, this time with freshman Kendall Kramer (Houston, Texas) assisting freshman Leah Solomon (Schertz, Texas) to give UT Tyler the 2-0 lead.

A little over ten seconds later, ETBU caught UT Tyler off guard as they broke away and scored on a goal by Jacqui Saling to pull the Lady Tigers within one.

At 41:55, freshman Ashley Crawford (Colleyville, Texas) scored for the Patriots to give them a 3-1 lead at the half.

The Patriots would go onto score twice more on goals from sophomore Amanda Thomas at 56:06 (Grapevine, Texas) and freshman Lauren Thomas (College Station, Texas) in the 64th minute. In between, ETBUs Amy Ramirez gave the Lady Tigers one more goal but senior Athena Bustamante and the UT Tyler defense effectively shut down the ETBU offense, allowing only five total shots.

Freshman Chelsea Fiscus (Keller, Texas) and senior Lindsey Palmer (Ft. Worth, Texas) each notched an assist in the match.

For the game, senior Jorden Reed had a team-high five shots, helping UT Tyler amass 26 total tries.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 10-3-3 overall and 8-1-3 in the ASC, while the Tigers fell to 4-11-2 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.

Seniors Bustamante, Palmer, and Reed were honored before the game their last home contest as Patriots.

UT Tyler will close out its regular season Oct. 27 with a road game at Concordia in Austin. The Patritos are guaranteed a spot in the ASC tournament set for Nov. 2-3 in Abilene.
