Hamline University shuts out undefeated, nationally ranked St. Benedict

Although the temperatures in St. Joseph were still in the 40s at the conclusion of the game, the Hamline University women's soccer team froze out nationally ranked St. Benedict 1-0 on the road. The win gives the Pipers their first victory over the Blazers, ranked 22nd in the nation, in program history - and gives St. Benedict their first loss of 2007.

All the Pipers needed for the victory was one goal, and they got it with junior Kim Magill's (Stillwater, Minn.) second goal of the season. The goal also marked only the second goal ever scored by the Pipers against the Blazers, the other coming in a 3-1 loss in 2000.

The assist came from Piper leading scorer, senior Ann Donner (Stillwater, Minn.). In the NCAA Division III statistical rankings released today that include games through October 7, Donner was ranked 12th in the nation in points per game (2.89) and eighth in goals per game (1.33).

First-year keeper Katie Gardner (Minneapolis, Minn.) earned her first collegiate win and shut-out.

With the win, the Pipers climb to 7-4-0 (2-4 MIAC). The seven wins this fall matches the most-ever wins in a season, set in 2000 and 2005.

The Pipers return home on Saturday, October 13, to host Concordia (Moorhead) at 3:00 p.m. as part of the homecoming weekend festivities.
