Nasypany nets hat trick in win over RPI


TROY, N.Y.�William Smith College first-year forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead the sixth-ranked Herons past Rensselaer today, 3-1. William Smith improved to 9-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Liberty League, while the Red Hawks fell to 6-4-1 and 1-2-0 in league play.

After an opening goal from RPI�s Sarah Hinz just 7 minutes, 20 seconds into the game, Nasypany responded just over a minute later with her first tally, assisted by junior midfielder Julia Bernay (Newport Harbor/Newport Beach, Calif.). Later in the half, senior forward Courtney Peters (Williamson/Williamson, N.Y.) set Nasypany up for her second goal of the day.

The Herons took a 2-1 lead into halftime, and held an 8-3 advantage on shots.

Nasypany completed the hat trick in the 78th minute, scoring unassisted for her eighth career goal.

First-year Heron goalkeeper Alice Binns (Beaver Country Day/Boston, Mass.) recorded one save in her seventh win of the season, while Meghan White made five stops in the loss for the Red Hawks.

William Smith will take the field at Vassar tomorrow, Oct. 6, for a Liberty League contest at 2 p.m.
