NCAC Women's Soccer Roundup - Oct. 7


OHIO WESLEYAN HOLDS ONE-POINT LEAD IN EARLY GOING

Ohio Wesleyan (2-0-1, 6-3-3) has a narrow lead in the North Coast women�s soccer standings with seven points, one point over second-place Denison (2-0-0, 9-3-0). The Battling Bishops look to extend their lead with home contests against two of the teams involved in a seventh-place tie, Hiram (0-2-0, 8-5-0) on Tuesday and Earlham (0-1-0, 8-2-1) on Saturday. The Terriers and the Quakers head into the week looking to record their first league wins of 2007.
The Big Red take aim on the Bishops with a road contest at third-place (tie) Wittenberg (1-0-1, 9-2-1) Wednesday, and a home game against sixth-place Allegheny (1-1-0, 3-5-1), Saturday. The Tigers have four points, while the Gators have three.

Other games on tap include Wooster (1-1-1, 9-3-1) at Allegheny and the Quakers at Kenyon (1-1-1, 5-4-2) on Wednesday. Saturday afternoon, the Tigers welcome Oberlin (0-2-0, 2-6-1) and the Terriers host the Ladies.

Polls: In the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings (Oct. 2), Denison is ranked 12th and Wittenberg stands 19th. In the NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Region poll, Denison is first, Wittenberg is second, Kenyon is sixth, and Ohio Wesleyan is seventh. In the D3Kicks.com Top 25 poll, Denison is 20th.

ALLEGHENY tied Carnegie Mellon, 0-0 in overtime and lost to Ohio Wesleyan, 1-0, last week. Kelsie Mozzoni (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) picked up her third career shutout in the scoreless tie with the Tartans. EARLHAM posted two victories last week, over Oberlin, 3-1, and Franklin, 5-0. WITTENBERG picked up two victories last week, 3-0 over Indiana Wesleyan and 2-1 over Hiram. Of the Tigers� 10 wins, only one is not by shutout and that was the contest with the Terriers last week. Goalkeeper Meghan O�Rourke (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) made a season-high six saves against Indiana Wesleyan to record her 40th career shutout, one shy of the conference career mark. The goal scored by Hiram was the first goal allowed by the Tiger defense since Sept. 12 �

WOOSTER saw plenty of time on the field this week as the Scots defeated Hiram, 4-3 in overtime, then lost to Kenyon, 1-0, also in overtime. Sophomore Simone DiSalvo (Reynoldsburg, OH/Reynoldsburg) scored the game winner in overtime versus Hiram, and also had an assist in the contest.
