Levrets selected to pilot McMurry's women
McMurry athletic director Bill Libby announced Monday that Stan Levrets will take over the McMurry University womens soccer program effective July 1. Levrets has several Abilene ties and served stints as a head soccer coach at both Cooper High School and Hardin-Simmons University in the past.
Most recently, Levrets served as the athletic director at Taejon Christian International School in Daejon, Korea. There he coached the soccer and tennis programs in addition to his administrative duties. Prior to his international venture, he worked at Cooper High School where he taught and served as the womens head coach for five seasons and an assistant for three years. During the 1997 season as an assistant, Levrets helped the Lady Cougars to a regional semi-final appearance.
From 1990-1994, Levrets served as the head soccer coach for both the mens and womens soccer programs at Hardin-Simmons University. In his time as the mens coach, he helped the Cowboys to three NAIA playoff appearances.
He received his B.BA at Hardin-Simmons in 1994, and graduated in May from the University of Phoenix Onlines masters program with a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis on supervision and leadership.
McMurry athletic director Bill Libby found Levrets local ties appealing including his past work at Cooper High School with current McMurry coaches Barbara Crousen and Bev Ball.
He has tremendous experience at the college and high school levels as well as internationally, said Libby. His personal values clearly fit with the system of values at McMurry. Several people who he had worked with in the past had given excellent references.
Levrets will take over a womens program that had many positives in the 2006. In its first five years of existence, the program managed just five victories. However, in 2006, McMurrys women matched that total with a 5-11 season. Steve Allan coached the women in 2006 for one season before moving to Michigan for family reasons.
Levrets and his wife Judy have three children: Kristen (27), Blake (25) and Bryan (22) is a senior at Hardin-Simmons.
