Darren Miller Named IIAC Sports Information Director
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Darren Miller has been named to the Conferences Director of Information/Assistant to the Commissioner. Miller, formerly the sports information director at IIAC member Cornell College, will officially begin his duties with the IIAC on July 1.
"Darren is not only a very talented writer, photographer, and sports information director; he also brings an in-depth knowledge of and appreciation for the philosophy of the Iowa Conference," IIAC Commissioner John Cochrane said. "Im extremely confident in Darrens ability; he takes tremendous pride in his work and will have the opportunity to apply his own signature to a sports information/administrative program that has been very firmly established through Will [Wolper]s efforts over the course of the past six years. We feel fortunate to be able to add someone of Darrens caliber to our program and I look forward to working with him in our efforts to continue providing young women and men with the most valuable educational experience through athletic participation to be found anywhere."
"It is an honor and a privilege to work for the Iowa Conference, undoubtedly one of the finest Division III leagues in the nation, Miller said. "I look forward to working with a well-respected commissioner like John Cochrane. He has done an outstanding job helping the Iowa Conference move forward and I am ecstatic about the opportunity of working with him."
Among Millers duties will be to serve as the chief information officer of the Conference by compiling and disseminating weekly statistical and news information for all 19 IIAC sports, serving as the Conference Webmaster and technology coordinator, maintaining records, and coordinating and overseeing the Conference awards programs. Miller will also assist Commissioner Cochrane and the membership in planning and coordination of Conference Championships, special events and governance meetings.
Miller is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) currently serving on the associations ethics committee after serving a number of years as a district coordinator for the Academic All-America committee.
A 1988 Summa Cum Laude graduate from Wartburg College, Miller spent the last 10 years as the SID at Cornell where he revamped the sports information department as the schools first full-time SID. Prior to joining Cornell, he was an award-winning sports editor for The Tipton Conservative.
Miller succeeds Will Wolper who was named Commissioner of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in April after six years with the Iowa Conference.
