Women's Soccer Suffers Narrow 2-1 Loss at Moravian University
BETHLEHEM, Pa. � The Cabrini women�s soccer team concluded its non-conference schedule with a 2-1 loss Wednesday at Moravian College. Freshman midfielder Kara Hinkelmon scored her fourth goal of the season in the loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Porretta tallied nine saves in net for the Cavaliers. Porretta�s stellar play in between the posts, including several saves off Greyhound shots from the doorstep, kept Cabrini in striking distance throughout.
Porretta kept the Greyhounds off the scoreboard after45 minutes of play with five saves. She tallied four saves in the second half.
After the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Cavaliers initiated the scoring in the 46th minute. Hinkelmon corralled a rebound in front and put the ball past out-of-position Moravian goalkeeper Caitlin Corrigan. The goal ranks Hinkelmon third on the team in points with eight on four scores.
The Cabrini defense, anchored by veterans Jen Burke, Nikki Duggan and Christina Romano, kept the Greyhounds� offense silent through the first 69 minutes until Tracy Fitzpatrick knotted the scoring from eight yards out with her eighth goal of the season.
Moravian secured a one-goal advantage and a lead it would never relinquish less than six minutes following. Alessandra Valdetara settled a loose ball five yards in front of the Cabrini goal and deposited the eventual game winner past Porretta at the 75:07 mark.
The Cavaliers� offense registered eight shots, led by three from junior forward Sabina DeGisi. Cabrini�s attack also induced five corners.
Cabrini (6-7-0, 3-2-0) resumes Colonial States Athletic Conference play Saturday, October 18 at Marywood University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
