Plattsburgh Grounds Golden Eagles


PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sep. 27, 2008) - A day after losing its first home game since the 2005 season, Plattsburgh State rebounded on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference men's soccer action at the Field House Soccer Complex.

The 18th nationally ranked Cardinals improve to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC, while the Golden Eagles fall to 4-3 and 2-1 also in the conference.

The teams played a scoreless first half that was even as Plattsburgh had six shots to five for Brockport and corner kicks were four apiece.

But the second half was all Plattsburgh, which dominated shots 11-2 over the last 45 minutes and led 17 to 7 for the game. David Hickman gave the Cardinals all the scoring they would need in the 51st minute with his first collegiate goal on a pass from Bart Misiak. Chad Shennett made it 2-0 in the 70th minute on assists by Pat Shaughnessy and Matt Mankowski. Mankowski scored an insurance goal three minutes later, taking a feed from Shennett.

John San Filippo notched his sixth shutout thanks to a defense--including Misiak, Mike Pinamonti, Gurtej Dhillon and Noel Tipovski--that didn't allow a shot on goal.

For Brockport, Brad Lefort and Aaron Acello each had two shots and starting goalkeeper Craig Waasdorp made three saves in 74 minutes and 30 seconds of action.
