ALEX CERON NAMED NJAC MEN�S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

PITMAN, NJ�New Jersey City University freshman midfielder/forward ALEX CERON (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second week of the 2008 season. He is the first Gothic Knight player to receive a weekly conference award thus far.

Ceron led NJCU offensively for the week as the Gothic Knights went 2-0 while outscoring its opponents by a 16-1 margin. Ceron supplied two goals and chipped in three assists for a seven-point, two-game stretch. All three of his shots for the week in just 54 minutes of action were on target.

In NJCU�s 7-1 win over Medgar Evers College on September 3 in his first career start, Ceron tallied his first career points, assisting on both of Cristhian Acuna�s (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) goals, including the game-winner. His cross to Acuna at 6:46 set up the eventual game-winner. He tallied a second assist later in the contest when his cross to Acuna on the right wing led to another netter.

In NJCU�s 9-0 trouncing of College of Mount Saint Vincent in the TCNJ Soccer Classic in Ewing, NJ, Ceron was NJCU�s top overall performer, scoring twice while adding an assist. In just 17 minutes of action both of his shots found the back of the net. He contributed on the fifth, sixth and seventh goals of the game. At 39:49 he scored his first career goal for a 5-0 lead then assisted on another goal just 44 seconds later. He concluded his day with a second goal at 43:10.
