Wheaton Freshman Goalie Leddy Earns ECAC and NEWMAC Honors

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's soccer standout Lindsay Leddy (Warwick, RI/Wheeler School) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 7.

A freshman, Leddy earned a pair of shutouts during her first two collegiate starts while not surrendering a goal in 225 minutes. Finishing with four saves against Western Connecticut State University, which ranked fourth in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), she helped lead 13th-ranked Wheaton to a 1-0 home victory on Saturday.

In the Blue and White's season opener at Roger Williams University on August 29, Leddy posted two stops en route to a 1-0 win. She also had five saves during a shutout second half last Wednesday against Worcester State College, a 2007 NCAA Tournament team that earned a preseason national ranking.

The Lyons, who were ranked third in last week's NSCAA regional poll, open a three-game week as part of a four-game homestand on Tuesday versus 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Emmanuel College at 4:30 p.m.
