Capital Keeps OAC Title Hopes Alive With Win at Muskingum

(NEW CONCORD, Ohio)--Capital University kept its Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer championship hopes alive with a 2-1 win Wednesday at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio.

The win gives Capital its record-setting 13th win of the season (13-3-1) and allows the Crusaders to stay in first place in the OAC with 19 pts. (6-1-1). With a win Saturday at 3 p.m. in the regular season finale at Ohio Northern University in Ada, the Crusaders can claim the OAC title for the third time in school history.

The score was tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute when when sophomore Josh Thaboune (Bexley/Bexley) fed fellow sophomore Steven McCarthy (Centerville/Kettering Alter) for a goal that proved to be the game winner. Thaboune got Capital on the board scoring off a penalty kick in the 52nd minute.

Muskingum (4-13, 0-8 OAC) tied the game with a Heath Zealer goal in the the 67th minute.

Capital junior John Snyder (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) had five saves in goal for the win.

NOTES: Capital has a 15-match road unbeaten streak (10-0-5) dating back to a 1-0 double overtime loss last season at Case Western Reserve.
