Southwestern Earns Second Win Over Ranked Team in as Many Games
The Southwestern University men's soccer team defeated #23 DePauw University on Sunday (Oct. 21) by a 2-0 score just two days after upsetting #10 Centre College in Georgetown, TX.
The first half saw SU put five shots on goal but Tiger goalkeeper John Fenley was able to keep the ball out of the net. Southwestern allowed just one shot in the half. The game was scoreless through the first half.
In the second period, junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season. Junior Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) was credited with an assist on the goal. In the 80th minute, Spencer scored his ninth goal of the seasonwith assists from John Yi (San Antonio, TX/Oakland City University) and goalie Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS).
Tasin stopped both goals taken by the Tigers in the game to earn the win. Southwestern has now allowed just two goals in seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games.
SU out-shot DePauw 17-2 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Pirates are now 10-5-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference while DePauw falls to 10-4-1, 5-2-0 in the SCAC.
The Pirates head out on the road for their final three games, beginning on Friday (Oct. 26) in Atlanta, GA against Oglethorpe University at 12:30 p.m.
