NJCU�S SCORING OFFENSE IMPROVES TO FIFTH OF 380 IN DIVISION III; CRISTHIAN ACUNA STILL AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS IN THREE AREAS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN� The NCAA released its fifth weekly Division III men�s soccer national statistical report for the 2007 season on Tuesday, and New Jersey City University improved to fifth in the nation among 380 schools in Division III in scoring offense, while junior forward CRISTHIAN ACUNA (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) continues to rank among the NCAA Division III national leaders in points, goals and assists per game.
As a team, NJCU has scored 56 goals in its first 13 games of the season for a 4.31 per game average�one goal more than any other New Jersey Athletic Conference rival (Richard Stockton College, 3.31). The Gothic Knights, now at 11-3 overall and tied for first place in the league with a 4-1 ledger, are tied for the second most total goals in the nation. Only #2 ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College, who defeated the Knights on September 9 by a 4-3 margin, has scored most often (64 goals). As a team, NJCU also ranks 56th in winning percentage.
Individually, Acuna, who has 11 goals, seven assists, and 29 points in 11 games, is tied for eighth in the country in points per game (2.64), tied for 20th in goals per game (1.00) and tied for 24th in assists per game (0.64).
Junior center midfielder JONATHAN BILBAO (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict�s), who leads the team with nine assists, is now tied for 13th nationally in assists per game at 0.75 per. He climbed all the way from 40th a week ago, by contributing three assists last week.
Twin brother EDISON BILBAO (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict�s Prep) is tied for 30th in assists per game (0.60), with six assists in 10 games. With 18 points, he is 74th nationally in points per game (1.80). He climbed from 40th and 79th, respectively, last week in the two categories.
