NJCU WINS FOR EIGHTH TIME IN NINE GAMES, BLANKS CCNY, 5-0

NEW YORK, NYNew Jersey City University outshot City College of New York, 31-4, and received goals from five different players as the Gothic Knights won their third game in a row and for the eighth time in nine outings, defeating the Beavers, 5-0, in a non-conference game played at Riverbank State Park.

With the win, NJCU improves to 11-3 overall and defeated CCNY (2-10) by a 5-0 margin for the second straight year. NJCU leads the all-time series, 4-1, with four straight wins.

Freshman keeper ANDRE VIOLA (Clifton, NJ/St. Josephs Regional (Montvale)) made one save to notch the clubs fifth shutout of the season.

Modzelewski put the Knights ahead to stay at 9:33 of the first half, when he caught up to a thru ball from Dapia, dribbled three steps and blasted a shot from outside the box into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead. It was Modzelewskis first goal of the year and second of his career and Dapias second assist. Both of Modzelewskis two career goals have been game-winners.

Tejada made it 2-0 at 25:39 when he stole possession from the CCNY defense, and made several moves before firing in a shot from 10 yards out for his fourth goal of the year.

Marin chipped in his fifth goal of the year when he also turned a steal into paydirt, lobbing a shot over CCNY freshman keeper Taiwo Alabi (Queens, NY/Nigeria), who was off his line.

Guvener put NJCU in front, 4-0, at 44:00, when he accepted a thru ball at the middle of the six from Ramirez and punched in a one-timer for his first career goal. Ramirez had his second assist of the year.

Vanegas capped the scoring at 64:52 of the second half when he dribbled into the CCNY zone from midfield and lobbed a high, 25-yard shot over Alabi who was out of net. Alabi finished with three saves for the Beavers.

NJCU is back in action on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. when it faces Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at Alumni Field in Newark. It will be the first meeting between NJCU and former head coach Kevin East, who accepted the head coaching position at RU-Newark in January 2007 after a nine-year run as the winningest coach in Gothic Knight history.
