SAINTS WIDEN LEAD IN UMAC RACE WITH WIN OVER PRESENTATION
DULUTH, Minn. -- St. Scholastica picked up an important win in the conference race Saturday afternoon with their 3-1 victory over visiting Presentation College in a game played at Griggs Field on the campus of UMD under extremely foggy conditions.
The win keeps St. Scholastica (10-2-0, 8-0-0 UMAC) undefeated in league play and puts some distance between themselves and the preseason favorite Presentation (8-4-0, 5-2-0 UMAC) squad who has suffered both conference losses to the team from St. Scholastica.
Robbie Miller from St. Scholastica opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the year to put his team up 1-0 less than nine minutes after the opening whistle.
Presentation picked up a goal from senior captain Jordan Heupel only four minutes later, though, to knot things up at 1-1, the score that the teams ended up carrying into the halftime break.
The pair of Saints teams continued their aggressive play into the second halfthere were a combined 15 fouls called in the opening frameand the score remained tied until freshman Toby Peter knocked one past Presentation keeper Joseph Romero to put St. Scholastica up a goal once again.
Presentation continued to press with physical play, registering a yellow card in both the 73rd and 77th minute, but it was St. Scholasticas Miller who broke the visitors backs in the 82nd minute with his second score of the game, this one coming off an assist from teammate Greg Doornink.
Presentation would pick up one more yellow as St. Scholastica ground out precious time on the clock.
Adam Whitehead made three saves for St. Scholastica in the win while Romero had five saves for Presentation in the loss.
