Sewanee Soccer: Wolverton Named Men’s Soccer Assistant


SEWANEE, Tenn. 6/27/07

Kelly Wolverton has been named the Sewanee men’s assistant soccor coach,
according to Mark Webb, athletic director. Coach Wolverton comes to Sewanee after three years as a coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas . Some of his responsibilities have been recruiting, scouting and game-day operations.

Wolverton also played four years at Baker and left as one of the most decorated players in the program's history. He was a three-time captain, three-time first-team all-conference selection, and was Heart of America Athletic Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Year as a sophomore and as a junior. He was Region V Player of the Year and a second-team all-American as a senior in 2002.

Kelly graduated from Baker with a political science degree in December of 2003. He finished a second degree (German) in December of 2006.

"I am thrilled to have someone of Kelly's caliber assisting me this Fall with our program," said head coach David Poggi. "We had a great deal of interest in this position from all over the country and the quality of applicants was very strong. Kelly was a highly-successful as a player and has served as an assistant under several experienced coaches. He has a great passion for the game and clearly understands the necessary balance in being a student and an athlete. He will be an excellent fit for Sewanee Soccer."
