Second Half Scoring Spree Downs Redlands
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. The California Lutheran University womens soccer team moved past the University of Redlands in the conference standings Saturday morning, after defeating the Bulldogs at home by a 3-0 margin. Aubrie Smith, Danielle Balderamma and Mackenzie Porter each scored a second half goal in the win.
The intensity was high as both teams understood the playoff picture could shift after the games result. CLU came out strong and pressured the Redlands defense as both teams were held scoreless taking four shots apiece.
Just over three minutes into the second half a Brittany Clark was chipped directly in front of goal to a waiting Smith, as she headed in the game-winner. Balderamma would score just 89 seconds after Porter passed a ball into a crowd of players in front of the Redlands goal.
Porter, after picking up her third assist of the season, scored for the first time in 2007 after a Marisa Zambetti shot ricocheted off the goalpost and put away the rebound.
Cal Lutheran and Redlands switch spots after Saturdays result, with the Regals now in third place bumping the Bulldogs to fourth.
