Hardin-Simmons University Freshman Carlyn Powers to Compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championships
Abilene, Tx - Hardin-Simmons University Freshman Carlyn Powers will be competing in the US Youth Soccer National Championships July 25-29. Carlyn and her club team, Solar 89, won the South Regional Championship on July 4 in Oklahoma.Solar 89�s road to the National Championships has been a great success story. The team qualified for D1 of the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League going into their freshman year. The team improved every season and first won their first state championship this spring. In the state cup the team beat D�feeters 2-1 in the semi-final then came from behind in the state championship to beat the Dallas Texans 3-2. Carlyn scored a goal in the state semi-fins and the state finals.
The National Championships will be held in Carlyn�s hometown of Frisco, TX at Pizza Hut Park. In another great storyline, Carlyn scored the winning goal in the regional championship game to send her team back home for nationals.
