4/11/06 - MLS In Negotiations With Rowan
It has been recently announced that Major League Soccer has entered into negotiations with Rowan University as the potential site for a soccer specific stadium and an MLS team. The proposed site, located on 285 acres of Rowans west campus in Glassboro, NJ, would play home to both Rowan athletics and an MLS team.
Utilizing the Home Depot Center as a model, Rowans spokesman Joe Cordona says the complex would be unlike anything on the East coast. When asked about the current situation, MLS commissioner Don Garber said, We are excited both by the possibility of helping Rowan extend its education opportunities, and by the prospect of having a new stadium ready for an MLS team as early as 2009.
It has not been determined whether the MLS team playing at Rowan would be an expansion team or a team relocated from another area, but it has been determined that the addition of a soccer specific complex would be a great addition to Rowan University, the MLS, United States soccer, and D3 soccer.
