Plattsburgh Women Top Fredonia
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. The Plattsburgh State womens soccer team defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils, 2-1, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup at the Fieldhouse Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.
The host Cardinals move to 12-2-1 overall, including a 6-2 mark in SUNYAC. Fredonia dips to 8-5-1 and 2-4-1 in the conference.
Sophomore Liz Radigan scored the game-winning goal at the 76th minute as she collected a loose ball from an Emily Riley pass and hooked it inside the top of the left post. The score was Radigans 11th of the season.
The Cardinals scored midway through the first when Helen Giroux netted her conference-leading 13th goal of the season at the 24-minute mark. Riley was credited with the assist, giving her nine on the season, which also tops the SUNYAC.
Plattsburgh out shot Fredonia 24-4 and tallied nine corner kicks to the Blue Devils zero.
Kathryn Lind picked up her 10th win of the season, moving into a tie for third on the schools all-time career list with 35 victories.
Becky Scroger made 12 saves for Fredonia.
