Spot on Giggsy glad to see that move to the east coast hasn't affected your memory, Loras looked past Clarke last year for 20 minutes, then put two away before half-time. '08 prediction Loras 5-1.

The NAIA school Loras should take seriously is St. Ambrose. They return their best players from a team that lost to Loras 1-0 on the road last year, and hit the cross bar with 6 sec. left to tie it. Greg Lehman is coming back for his senior year and is one of the best pure forwards Loras will face all year.

SLU has a kid named Alejandro Soto coming in from Va. He is a 2007/2008 ODP National Pool selection. He can play, but playing within a system is never easy for someone that has a ton of natural talent.

I couldn't tell you much about the other schools. I know that Hamilton has a kid coming in that got a lot of hype at the Brown University camp. That camp is usually a pretty good indication of Ivy League talent, but I am always skeptical of the kids coming out of there.

Union also has a kid from the capital district who played for Blackwatch...he's supposed to be big and skilled.

That's about all I got.

However, in the preseason, it's not a terrible thing for D3 and D1 teams to hook up...or the non-traditional season.

SLU regularly plays (and fares quite well) Vermont, Colgate, SU (not so much anymore) Siena and a couple of others. It provides the D1 teams with a great warmup for the season, while it provides the D3 teams a true test before their conference play begins.

I would wholeheartedly disagree with the statement that D1 athletes are generally more skilled technically than D3 players. I would actually say that D3 players may have more skill in general. They are usually smaller and slower. I would also argue that many D3 players could play at the D1 level. The issue is the number of D1 programs is dwarfed by the D3 programs. You can only take so many kids on one team. Many kids get overlooked.

I agree with dacia's comments almost to a T.

Couldn't agree more with your predictions, however, Hamilton can never be left out. I would say Hobart, SLU, Union, Hamilton.

I also agree that Banagan will be a big asset for Union. Coletta in goal for SLU is huge with Lamarca up top. The defense will be a question mark for SLU. O'Brien was great his freshman year, but a disappointment last year. Look for a freshman to be starting at center back...scary. Also look the transfer from SUNY IT to help in the scoring category. Did well last year in the SUNYAC.

Riso will score goals, but I wonder about the midfield for Hobart

> Fredonia lost a lot of scoring and all of their
> goalkeeping. Could be a down year for them,
> especially with the SUNYAC being so tough.
> Brockport will be the same Brockport that you get
> every year. They'll win some big games and lose a
> bunch of "bunnies".
>
> However, Brockport always seems to get one or two
> transfers that left western NY to go somewhere
> else, only to find its much more difficult in
> college, then come back home. You can bank on on
> or two a year. If they get a couple of guys they
> could be solid...if they don't get those guys,
> they will be average.
>
> Anything on Geneseo?

I just looked at fredonia stats and they return their top two scorers. The sleeper with New Paltz.
